How To Connect USB Storage Devices To Galaxy S7

Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge has got massive batteries this time. They have 3000 mAh and 3600 mAh non-removable Li-Po batteries respectively. This large battery is capable enough to power the Galaxy S7 for more than a day under normal usage. Basically the power rating of the Galaxy S7's battery is 3.85V which can power any USB storage device like flash drive, OTG drive, some external hard drives like the latest Samsung Portable SSD T3 which weighs only 51 grams. Galaxy S7 fully supports OTG function and you can even connect a USB mouse, keyboard or a PS4 or XBOX ONE controller.

The good news is that you can charge your Galaxy S6, S5 or S4 with your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge by just inter connecting them with cables. You can also move data by this method. See the image below.

Requirements

You should have at least one of the below mentioned USB storage or peripheral devices.

  • USB Storage: Any pen drive, flash drive or SanDisk OTG drive for android.
  • External Hard Drive: Portable SSD T3 or SSD T1 (250 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB)
  • Peripheral Devices: Keyboards, wired/wireless Mouse or game controllers.
  • USB OTG connector supplied by Samsung.

  • Plug in the storage device in the bigger USB port.
  • Connect the smaller port to your phone.
  • On connecting a notification will appear on your phone.
  • Now you can use any file manager app to copy or move files to and fro.
  • If you are using a Portable SSD T3 then you will need the official app for it that you have to install it on your phone. I will discuss about it later.
  • You can connect a keyboard, game controller and a mouse similarly.
  • For connecting a wireless mouse you should connect the USB nano-receiver to the OTG cable.
  • Switch ON the wireless mouse and it will work.

Note
: I haven't tested a wireless keyboard and mouse combo with a common USB transceiver. But since the wireless devices are battery powered then the keyboard and mouse combo will also work. With this combo you can use a mouse and keyboard simultaneously on your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge.

Use Your Galaxy S7 As a Power Bank

With such a massive battery you can use your Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge as a Power Bank for charging other android smartphones. Since the micro USB port of S7 is not of Type-C, still you can charge your other smartphones. For this purpose you will need a normal data cable and an OTG cable/adapter. See the image below for connection.

When you connect like this then the phone with a smaller battery will automatically start charging by taking power from your Galaxy S7's battery.

How To Restart A Frozen Samsung Galaxy S7

Samsung Galaxy S7 is the upcoming flagship android smartphone from Samsung. The Galaxy S7 comes with a non-removable 3000 mAh / 3600 mAh battery with fast charging technology (60% battery is charged in 30 minutes). The battery is non-removable which means that if the phone is frozen or hangs occasionally then there is no way to reset the phone. The phone may hang during a software update.

Well it isn't so, as the Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge comes with a safety feature as when the phone freezes and becomes unresponsive then it restarts automatically within few seconds. This feature can be found in almost every Samsung Mobile or tablet having a non-removable battery. This automatic reboot is present to save your phone's battery and from unwanted hardware damage.

However some situations may arise in which you fill find that the phone is completely frozen and the touchscreen becomes unresponsive and the Galaxy S7 isn't restarting itself besides having the safety feature. Then in this situation manual override comes in to play in which you will restart the Galaxy S7 on your own, however this is not Hard Reset which is done only when the phone doesn't perform well even after restart and fixing everything.

How To Restart A Frozen Galaxy S7 / Galaxy S7 Edge

  • If your Galaxy S7/Galaxy S7 Edge is frozen and the touchscreen becomes unresponsive then wait for few seconds at least 40-50 seconds to see whether automatic restart is initiated or not.
  • If your frozen Galaxy S7 doesn't restart within few seconds then its time that you have to do the manual override.
  • Just press and hold the "Power Button" and "Volume Down" button simultaneously (at the same time) for more than 7 seconds to restart your Galaxy S7.
  • After restarting, the phone will boot to home screen thereby fixing the frozen Galaxy S7.

How To Hard Reset Your Galaxy S7 / Galaxy S7 Edge

You should be aware that Hard Reset is only done to reset the phone to factory settings and is only done to reverse any software problems, cache problems, full storage problems and partition problems. Also be aware that in a Hard Reset the entire data stored on your Galaxy S7 will be wiped out and you can't recover anything from your phone's internal storage later. So its a wise decision to always have a backup of your data stored on your phone. To hard reset your Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge follow the steps below.

Warning: Doing a Hard-Reset will initiate factory reset protection on your phone. After this you can't use your phone for 3-days or 72 hours. Make sure that you should only perform hard reset after removing all the Google accounts from the phone. Read more about Google's 72-hour lockout. To be on a safe side go to 'Settings>Security>Factory Reset' if you don't want to initiate FRP.

  • Turn off the cell phone.
  • Press and hold "Power", "Home" and "Volume Up" button simultaneously for few seconds until you see a warning message on the screen.
  • Press Volume Up button to enter recovery mode, if asked.
  • In this Galaxy S7 recovery mode you can factory reset, wipe data, wipe Dalvik cache and wipe cache partition easily.
  • Use volume up/down to navigate and press home button to select the option.
  • After a factory reset the phone will take long time to boot to home screen.

You have successfully learnt to restart a frozen Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge and doing a Hard Reset on it.

How To Install Flash Player On Samsung Galaxy S7

Galaxy S7 is the latest flagship device from Samsung which was recently launched at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona 2016. It has two variants the other being the Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung has given several improvements over its predecessor. The hardware is backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 an octa-core CPU with 4 GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage is 32/64 GB which can be further expanded to 200 GB. This time Samsung has focused on Dual-Pixel camera instead of increasing the mega-pixels. Also the camera aperture is f/1.7 which is good for low light photography. With an octa-core CPU the phone will heat during gaming, so reduce overheating Samsung has fitted a water cooling system underneath the battery.

The phone runs android 6.0 Marshmallow and doesn't support the 'Adaptive Storage' feature from the OS. This meas that you can not the use the 'SD card' as internal storage on a Galaxy S7 smartphone. These were some quick specs of Galaxy S7. In this tutorial we will talk about installing flash player on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

What Actually Is Flash Player

Flash Player is a plugin for android web browsers which deliver interactive content in the browser window. This content can be a video or flash games (.SWF). Previously we were using Adobe Flash Player APK to install it on Samsung smartphones. This app worked for most phones but Adobe pulled its support from the android's flash plugin in 2011. Since then no improvements have been made to it. The app has now become obsolete and is more vulnerable to security risks.

As the smartphones are advancing in technology day by day, the need for flash plugin is also diminishing. Today we have web browsers for android that have inbuilt flash player support. These web browsers include Mozilla Firefox, Puffin Web browser and the dolphin web browser. You can play flash videos and run SWF games in these browsers.

How To Install Flash Player On Galaxy S7

You can install any of the below listed browser for android and enjoy flash content on your Galaxy S7/S7 Edge.

To enable flash plugin just head to 'Settings' and find the flash player settings. You may find two options 'On-Demand' or 'Always Active'. For enabling this plugin in puffin browser go to 'Settings>Data Savings'. Here tap the 'Customize' tab and enable 'Flash on Demand'. Use the slider to adjust the 'Flash quality'. The process is similar for other browsers also.
